This program focuses on significant events in the history of Uherský Brod. Students will tour the permanent exhibit “Uherský Brod Antiquities”. They will learn about the history of the town and view exhibits, including a model depicting the town’s appearance between 1643 and 1660. Participants will hear legends about the town’s founding, the tale of “Černý Janek”, and how the town defended itself against foreign invaders. The program also covers the town’s medieval guilds and the site of the former royal castle. A highlight includes information about coin hoards discovered in the area.
Among the exhibits introduced during the program are: knight’s armor and lance; a coal-powered bed warmer; a 19th-century portable toilet; jewelry made from human hair; medieval weapons; and paintings by local artist Josef Kočica, showcasing the town’s lost architecture. Students will also see guild and municipal artifacts, including a stonemasons’ and bricklayers’ chest from 1670, and an iron chest from the 18th century with an intricate locking mechanism used to store money, valuable documents, and the town council’s seals and signet stamps.
At the end of the program, students will receive handmade paper and write a secret message for King Přemysl Otakar II. They will then seal the document with their own wax seal, creating a unique keepsake from their historical journey.
