Year-Round Program | designed for: Primary, Secondary School Students, and Pedagogical Faculty Students
program duration: 45–60 minutes
admission: 30 CZK per student (free for accompanying teachers)
Program Overview:
The Orbis Pictus program introduces students to Comenius’ work Orbis Sensualium Pictus, offering a practical application of his didactic principles for teaching foreign languages.
The textbook is grounded in the idea that sensory perception plays a crucial role in the early stages of education. It emphasizes developing sensory awareness, moving from objects to words, from concrete to abstract concepts, and fostering students’ curiosity and initiative in learning.
Students participate in a lesson conducted in a historical classroom setting, sitting at old wooden desks and listening to a museum educator. They actively engage in learning through hands-on activities, exploring classical crafts like milling, winemaking, and tailoring in a playful and interactive way. Along the way, they expand their vocabulary, learning words and their meanings not only in Czech (or English) but also in Latin.
For the adventurous, there is an opportunity to step into the teacher’s role and instruct their peers in this historic classroom, following the principles of Comenius.
Program Extension Option:
The program can be expanded to include an additional session focused on John Amos Comenius himself. This segment introduces students to his life and literary contributions.
Extended Program Duration: Orbis Pictus: 45–60 minutes; On the Stage of the World: 45–60 minutes; Total duration: approximately 120 minutes.
This comprehensive program is highly recommended for its valuable educational content, offering students a unique and enriching experience to complement their studies.
Admission (complete program): 60 CZK per pupil / 80 CZK per student
