Seasonal Program: December | designed for: Preschool Children and Primary School Students
maximum number of participants: 15–20 | program duration: 30–45 minutes
admission: 40 CZK per student (free for accompanying teachers)
An educational program focused on the ancient traditions and customs observed during the Advent season and on Christmas Eve, both in farmers’ households and in poorer homes. Children will learn about the symbolism of Christmas, the winter chores done at home, and what people used to eat during this time. They will also be introduced to magical characters integral to the pre-Christmas and Christmas period. Activities include, among others, feather plucking and floating walnut shell candles on water.
This program is offered exclusively in December and takes place in the last surviving farmhouse in Vlčnov, featuring a two-story storage chamber, black kitchen, and thatched roof. Once typical in the Moravian Slovakia region at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, this valuable example of rural architecture offers visitors insight into the now-vanished lifestyle of rural villagers in Moravian Slovakia.
